Introducing…Lauren Shera

Lauren Shera is a singer-songwriter who releases her album Once I Was A Bird tomorrow on Such Small Hands Music. It is the follow-up to her 2006 digital only debut In My Bones.

While it may seem a long gap between records, she is still tender in years. However, her music has a wonderfully poignant quality that makes you think she should be a lot more world weary than she presumably is! These are folk songs that feel simply done, free of unnecessary adornment or clutter, and given room to breathe – the album is all the better (and impressive) for taking such an approach.

From the haunting Endless Sea to the blugrass tinged Tether and the hypnotic strum of Stealth with its plaintive and affecting lyrics, the whole album is an unexpected delight and one that has been playing pretty regularly on the stereo here.

In fact we would go so far as to say that, like the very best releases, this has a timeless quality about it that is rarely found. You could close your eyes and imagine Joan Baez or Linda Rondstadt singing these songs forty years past, or just as easily, the very talented Lauren Shera singing them tomorrow.
