Mad Mackerel Recommends…Daniel Knox

Mad Mackerel Recommends Daniel KnoxWe’re late to this one, but never mind – you like us might have missed the dubious charms of Daniel Knox – until now.

Knox’s album, Evryman for Himself was recorded at home in his Chicago bedroom. Released last month, it is the second album in an envisioned trilogy, falling in between the self-released Disaster and the forthcoming, Chasescene. Some of the songs lure, some lilt and jeer, but all are stamped with his contagious melodies and preoccupation with styles of the 1920’s – a peculiar package for his lyrical jabs and barbs.

In fact, he bellows wonderfully evocative and provocative tales of disillusionment, obsession, and criminal intent. Daniel Knox is a rogue at the piano, crooning, sneering and shouting so that his cast of characters may speak. We’re late to him, but it is a discovery we’re relishing!
