MM and I went to see a film this week with a friend of ours, Gooner Ian. We were the only three in the cinema until the last minute when a couple gate-crashed the party. (Didn’t they realise?! We didn’t!) Anyway, no-one could deny the commanding central performance or even a highly credible supporting cast, but it just wasn’t what it promised to be. It lacked depth (in this case political) and was without the cultural reference points that spark a whole raft of memories. Sadly, it just sort of faded away from consciousness.
It’s a metaphor that translates well. People… Songs… They start well, make a lot of noise, put on a great show but actually underneath it all, there’s really not much to it or them at all.
What’s a girl to do? Get swimming. Splash!
