Mad Mackerel Recommends...Chelle Rose

Maverick, outlaw-country legend Ray Wylie Hubbard seems to be turning up a lot here at MM – whether it be our belated discovery of his cover of US national-anthem-in-waiting Choctaw Bingo or his sublime recent Daytrotter session, and now we find his hand in this wonderful record by gut-honest southern singer-songwriter Chelle Rose.

He is the producer of Ghost of Browder Holler (out via Lil’ Damsel Records, May 1st) and it is a record of elemental power, visceral rock ‘n’ roll, haunting regrets and genuine hardscrabble country. The tracks are ripe with mystery and passion, and sound like they were plucked from the kudzu-scented air of her native Loudon County in East Tennessee.

Hubbard himself turns up on the outstanding Browder Holler Boy and other guests include Elizabeth Cook, Ian McLagan and the McCrary Sisters. All make excellent contributions, however, none can detract from the focus on her stunning vocals and swamp-rockin’ Americana.

    1. Hi Scott, we’ve checked them on three different machines and they download fine for us just using right click and save as…not sure why you can’t get them to download at your end but let us know if you’re still having problems.
